Kaziranga to be connected by national rail network
GUWAHATI: In a step to boost tourism in the region the government is planning to connect Kaziranga to the national rail network. Union Minister for Railways, Rajen Gohain revealed it during a foundation stone laying ceremony of electrification work between Guwahati and Lumding.
The Lumding-Guwahati electrification work is expected to be completed by December 2019.
The minister said that the government was thinking of connecting Kaziranga to the national rail network which would provide a major boost to tourism in the state. Gohain pointed out that the nearest railway station is at Jakhlabandha which is just seven minutes from the Kaziranga National Park.
The other station where upgrade work will be undertaken is the Silghat station which has the Assam Cooperative Jute Mills Limited and is 8 KMs from Jakhlabandha.
