KMSS, 70 organisations stage ‘Dispur Gherao’
GUWAHATI: Under the ‘Sankalpa Shikha Jatra’, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and its 70 ally organisations staged a ‘Dispur Gherao’ programme, demanding scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
KMSS advisor Akhil Gogoi said the activists of all the organisations started their march to Guwahati from Sadiya, Diphu, Jonai and Dhubri on November 11 and have assembled in the State capital for the ‘Dispur Gherao’ programme.
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in East, West and Central Guwahati areas since yesterday in view of the mass demonstration and the prohibition will remain in force until further orders. Police sources said the administration would take strong steps against anyone trying to break the law. “We will keep a strict vigil in Guwahati,” a police official said.
