Lok Sabha Elections: BJP Undecided on Tezpur and Nagaon Candidates
GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate selection for the Tezpur and Nagaon seat has got delayed. This was due to a last minute decision by the central leadership.
As earlier reported, for the Tezpur Lok Sabha seat, senior BJP leader and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma was finalised by the state election committee replacing seating BJP MP Ram Prasad Sarmah.
For Nagaon, due to a pending court case, the sitting BJP MP and MoS Railways Rajen Gohain announced that he will not contest. Top BJP leaders from the state and the BJP Central Election Committee met continuously for two days to finalise the 10 seats for Assam.
As per sources, at present, leaving Tezpur and Nagaon other eight seats have been finalised. BJP president Amit Shah has yet to sign the list.
