Online Petition Urges Govt to Provide Sanitary Pads in Flood Relief
GUWAHATI: An online petition has been started by one Mayuri Bhattacharjee asking the government to provide sanitary pads in the flood relief camps.
As flood continues to wreak havoc in Assam and thousands have been rendered homeless, residing in relief camps and other makeshift facilities, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority is providing relief packages for all victims.
The packages usually contain essentials like food and basic necessities like
soap, shampoo, etc.
But they lack sanitary pads, a basic necessity for all women.
Usually, flood-affected victims have to take shelters in community camps for months during the monsoon season.
There is no provision for privacy and maintaining the required menstrual hygiene is a challenge.
Bhattacharjee, who hails from Sonitpur district has started the petition online through charge.org, urging people to sign so as to include sanitary pads in the relief packages and inside camps.
