PM Modi to Inaugurate Bogibeel Bridge in Assam today
GUWAHATI: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra today.
According to officials at Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Modi will be arriving at Dibrugarh on a special flight from Delhi and inauguration programme is said to take place tentatively at around 1:30 pm.
The NF Railway will run four Special Trains to and from Tangani to facilitate people to join the inaugural function of the bridge.
With a length of 4.94 km, Bogibeel is the fourth bridge over the Brahmaputra and also the longest rail-cum-road bridge of the country. It has double line broad gauge tracks and a three-lane road.
The inauguration of the Bogibeel Bridge is expected to give a huge boost to connectivity, as well as trade and commerce, in this part of the country.
It is to be mentioned that the foundation stone of the bridge was laid in 1997 by then prime minister H D Deve Gowda but the work started only in 2002.
