Republic Day observed in Paltan Bazar slum

The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights celebrated the 69th Republic Day yesterday at Paltan Bazar slum. The programme was marked by flag hoisting in the office premises.

On this occasion, Chairperson Dr Sunita Changkakati and members of the Commission Dr Nani Gopal Goswami and Rupa Hazarika along with officials of the Commission went on a Republic Day sensitisation programme. The programme was conducted among slum children near the Guwahati Railway Station with th

e view of sensitising the children about the significance of  January 26, informed a press communique. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sunita Changkakati stressed on creating awareness among the children and youths particularly in the slum areas against child trafficking and exploitation. She also said that the children from slum areas are more exposed to trafficking rackets as well as drug abuse, so it needs a vigilant youth society to monitor the future generations. 

The children were also treated with sweets and the tricolor to mark the occasion.
