Russia Becomes First Country to Register COVID-19 Vaccine
Amid the race to develop a COVID-19 vaccine, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a coronavirus vaccine on August 11, Tuesday.
Russia's COVID-19 vaccine has been touted as the world's first such vaccine.
The registration of the vaccine lays the ground for mass inoculation even as the final stages of clinical trials to test safety and efficacy continue.
Russia's first coronavirus vaccine is developed jointly by Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defence Ministry.
"I hope we will be able to start mass production of this medication in the near future, which is very important," President Vladimir Putin was quoted as saying.
The president also said that one of his daughters has been given a shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
