Second Incident of Pipe Burst During Water Supply Pressure Test in Guwahati
GUWAHATI: Another incident of a water pipeline burst was reported in Guwahati’s Latasil area. The incident happened close to the Gauhati High Court this afternoon when a newly laid water pipeline burst during a pressure test.
A similar incident had occurred in the same area around two months ago. The location of the previous burst was different although the vicinity was the same.
Given these unfortunate incidents, Guwahatians remain wondering when the pipelines would be commissioned without a calamity taking place.
Water was leaking since the morning but later in the day there was a huge burst coupled with a loud sound and the water just gushed out flooding the entire area leading to a scary situation. There were no injuries reported.
Rupjyoti Talukdar, executive engineer of Guwahati Jal Board said, "The pipeline is from the JICA-funded water supply project. JICA, through a press release last March, had warned of the possibility of such incidents during the hydro pressure tests that they would be undertaking now and then."
"Such hydro tests are conducted to check if there is any damage or leakage in the pipes. As such the pressure is much higher than the normal required. Since the damage is done by the JICA-funded project, the relevant party would be taking up restoration work from tomorrow," informed Talukdar.
