Section 144 imposed outside SC after women activists staged protest against clean chit to CJI
GUWAHATI: Section 144 has been imposed outside the Supreme Court (SC) following massive protests staged by a group of women activists and lawyers against the clean chit given to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi in the sexual harassment case against him.
Dozens of protesters gathered outside Supreme Court, carrying placards demanding a new and impartial investigation into the case.
A three-judge in-house Supreme Court inquiry panel on May 6 dismissed the complaint of sexual harassment against CJI Ranjan Gogoi. The three-judge panel consists of Justices SA Bobde, Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee.
