Smart City work to begin from May
Reacting to the allegations of delay in the project, the managing director (MD) of the Guwahati Smart City Ltd (GSCL) claimed that the citizens of Guwahati will witness actual work on smart city from May 2018.
Angamuthu said, “Work on projects like Gandhi Mandap development, construction of the highest national flag at Sarania Hills will start from May or June.”
The MD explained that the smart city project is a continuous process and all the projects have to undergo a cycle.
Every project has to go through cycles from conceptualisation to feasibility study to detailed project report preparations and finally execution of the work, explained the MD.
For every step an approval has to be obtained from the government which takes time, he said.
Angamuthu said, “Projects like Brahmaputra riverfront development and Bharalu and Mora Bharalu development take time as everything has to be studied minutely in collaboration with other departments.”
The DPR for Brahmaputra riverfront development will be completed by May, he said.
DPRs for many projects have been completed and are in tendering process. Projects above Rs 20 lakhs have to be tendered online and the process of selection takes around six months, Angamuthu said.
The DPR for command control centre (CCC) is already complete but GSCL is not being able to get a plot of land for the centre. It is a project where all the city’s electric poles will be connected with CCTV cameras with a command centre monitoring the traffic. All the poles will have solar lights connected to it (integrated electricity poles for smart lighting).
