Spotify Silently Launches in India Last Night
GUWAHATI: Spotify silently launched its app on the playstore, app store and windows store last night, February 26. Even though the company has not made an official statement yet, the ‘install’ button has gone live after months of postponed launch announcements.
Its premium membership is only available to existing users of the service and only on the Android platform. While the app exists on the app store and windows store, the premium membership option is not yet available.
The app has been especially customised for its usage in India with eight different language preferences to choose from. Users can also customise their artist preferences which Spotify will then use to make a custom playlist.
Existing users on the music streaming app have the option to sign up for premium plans that start at Rs. 119 per month or Rs. 1189 for a full year membership.
Students can also avail a special offer where they can get a discount of 50% off on the monthly fees rate.
The app also allows for easy one-time payments that can be topped-up as per the user’s requirement starting at Rs. 13 for a day to Rs. 719 for 6 months. For new users, it might take a while to be able to access premium membership.
One of the most significant features of the premium membership is the availability of higher quality audio for music lovers.
The music app will be in strong competition with other similar platforms such as JioSaavn and Gaana, the two most popular services in India.
