Three Indian Rivers flowing into Pakistan will be Diverted: Gadkari
GUWAHATI: Union Minister of Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari said on February 21 that the water of three rivers, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej which has been flowing into Pakistan will be diverted to Yamuna River.
It should be noted that India has full rights over these three rivers under the Indus Water Treaty.
This is being done after the recent suicide terror attack in Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan-based militant group, Jaish-e-Mohammad which took the lives of more than 40 CRPF jawans.
The government’s decision will not impact Pakistan’s share of water under the treaty. Officials have also added that the plan was in place since 2016 and three dam projects were announced then, and they have been recently inaugurated.
In addition to this, farmers from Madhya Pradesh have also stopped exporting tomatoes to Pakistan in protest, which has been applauded by the state's Chief Minister, Kamal Nath. As result of this, tomato prices have sky-rocketed to as much as Rs. 180/kg in Pakistan.
