TMC members ask BJP to ensure safety of Bengali people in Assam
GUWAHATI: On February 12, the issue of the reported killings of Bengalis in Assam was raised in the Lok Sabha and Trinamool Congress (TMC) members have asked the BJP government to stop their “dirty politics” and to ensure the safety of Bengalis in the state.
TMC MP, Dinesh Trivedi and Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had raised the matter during the zero hour. Trivedi said that a TMC delegation had visited Assam and found that “Bengalis in Assam has always been pro-India. Dirty politics of BJP has to stop and you must stop killing of Bengalis in Assam .”
Chowdhury said that Bengalis move out of West Bengal in search of livelihood but do not feel safe in Gujarat, UP and Assam. He said that Bengalis are being killed in Assam and that the centre should ask them to ensure safety of Bengalis.
It should be noted that reports emerged of migrant labourers from West Bengal being killed in Assam by unidentified men. Idris Ali from TMC has also demanded that the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, January 23 should be declared as a National holiday.
