Unhappy With AIUDF Alliance, Nearly 100 Leave Congress for BJP

GUWAHATI: In Margherita, nearly 100 Congress workers have left the party to shift to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2021 Assam assembly elections. This was confirmed by Digboi BJP MLA, Suren Phukon to G Plus.

Several key members from Congress in Margherita in upper Assam including the Yuva Congress Panchayat President of the region have turned to saffron. G Plus spoke to BJP Margherita Block Mandal president, Bhabesh Dutta, who revealed that "a lot of Congres
s workers have left the party as they are unhappy with the coalition with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and are lured by the work done by the BJP."

The Congress is set to contest the 2021 assembly elections in Assam partnering its earlier rival AIUDF. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora met party in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh to apprise the party's status and its strategy for the upcoming polls.
